My short story. . .

After a long career as an academic with many scholarly and some not-so-scholarly publications, I’ve now turned to creative writing. My goal is to leave footnotes behind. Much of my prose is grim but with a tad of humor to create a bitter-sweet flavor. My models are the Yiddish writers from the shtetl. I update their style into the 21st century.

My long story. . .

My wife has encouraged me to compose my own obituary. I like the idea. An obit for a living person allows a look back AND a look forward. That look forward allows for some creativity, some fantasy, some dreaming of what might be. I suspect that this self-written obituary will be revised many times during the coming years. I see it more as a newspaper article than a two inch announcement of my death. When my last day of life comes, my obituary will be ready for publication. Just insert a date and delete whatever didn’t happen. Let’s steal the title from Fellini’s 1960 film “La Dolce Vita.”
